The oppotuniay to work with this historic block was just too good for us to pass up. We feel a strong connection to the unique and uncharacteristic structure of this truly wild section of Syrah. The block was originally planted to Riesling on its own roots in 1973 and later grafted over to Syrah in 1987 but maintained the original 6ft tall California Sprawl trellis system. As a result, the wine is as unique and profound as the look of the vines. True phenolic ripeness is achieved very late in the season but at very low sugar levels. So a dark, structured and ripe Syrah is achieved at very low alcohol.
